Discussion Group and Cookies

In order to enhance their use of RoughStraightMen, users can choose to leave comments on particular articles of interest via our third party provider, Disqus. To leave a comment, users must submit information including a valid email address. RoughStraightMen uses this information to screen out users who leave comments prohibited by our terms and conditions of use, and will not pass this information to any other organization.

The discussion board service may use cookies. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s computer tied to information about the user. We may use both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. For the session ID cookie, once users close the browser, the cookie simply terminates. A persistent cookie is a small text file stored on the user’s hard drive for an extended period of time. Persistent cookies can be removed by following Internet browser help file directions. You can configure your browser to accept all cookies, reject all cookies, or notify you when a cookie is set.

Third Party Cookies

Some of our business partners may use cookies on our site (for example, advertisers). However, RoughStraightMen has no access to or control over these cookies, once we have given permission for them to set cookies for advertising. This privacy statement covers the use of cookies by RoughStraightMen only and does not cover the use of cookies by any advertisers.

Email Addresses & Your Privacy

RoughStraightMen does not collect email addresses from our surfers for the purpose of tracking, demographics, email or marketing communications.

Usernames and their accompanying email addresses for the purposes of Online Comments are collected and secured by third party provider, Disqus – some of this information is captured and stored in our system back-ups.

Any information you’ve provided by commenting on the website (Username, Email Address) will not be shared with any person or business. Your privacy will be respected and we will not sell, rent, share your email addresses. We will ensure list security and prevent any abuse.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

Log Files

RoughStraightMen uses the industry standard Google Analytics to monitor usage and behaviour on its websites. Like most standard Web site servers, RoughStraightMen uses log files. This includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track user movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses, etc. are not linked to personally identifiable information.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
